Another other: son palabras que suelen confundir a los alumnos. Ya verás como cuándo te explique la diferencia entre another other no lo ves tan difícil. Vamos allá!
- Another + singular noun
Examples: Can I have another cup of coffee, please?
Another advantage to living in a small village is peace.
«cup» and «advantage» = singular
- Other + plural noun
Examples: Some people think that living in the city is better than living in a village. Other people think that life in a village is quieter.
Remember: «people» always plural! Common mistake: Another people
I don’t like speaking in public when I am studying English in my school. Other things I don’t like are grammar and listening, which are quite difficult.
- The + other + plural noun/ singular noun If we want to say «el otro», we always use «the + other», never another, independientemente de que el sustantivo sea plural o singular.
Examples: I don’t like that bag. I prefer the other bag (or I prefer the other one) = SINGULAR / I don’t like those jeans. I prefer the other jeans (or I prefer the other ones) = PLURAL
- Another + number + plural noun
Examples: Can I have another two beers, please? = another + 2 (number) + plural
REMEMBER! Other and another are always singular when they are followed by a noun, because they are adjective. However, «other», when it’s not followed by a noun, it’s a pronoun and then = OTHERS
Example: There were three books on my table. One is here. Where are the others? «others» here is a pronoun, because it’s not followed by a noun, so we write -s.

Quisiera preguntarte algo:

En esta oración por que no decimos: I don’t like speak y usamos en su defecto skpeaking, que regla tiene este ing en este caso…

Tengo duda en el 7 donde dice:
«The other child» tengo entendido que child es singular entonces no seria correcto poner «the another child» en lugar de other

No, la regla es así:
another + singular
other + plural
Pero: the + other + singular/plural.
Es decir, si ponemos el artículo the, siempre pondremos other, independientemente de que el sustantivo sea singular o plural.

Una pregunta, ¿la expresión «There is no other way» es una excepción o una regla?, es decir, solo es en ese caso o siempre que estemos negando se usa other.
Otra pregunta, ¿sería correcto There isn´t other way»?

la regla es: there is + no + other + way. Si tenemos la negación «no», entonces utilizamos «other». La segunda opción sería correcta así: there isn’t another way.

Funcionan igual, si decimos «el» o «la» hay que poner the other, si es singular, en singular (the other) y si es plural, en plural (the others).

Pense que lo habia entendido. Aver si me explico
-con THE OTHER (EL OTRO O LOS OTROS) sea singular o plurar ponemos the other y siempre tiene que ir seguido por un nombre. Ejemplo. I don’t like that dress, i like the other dress more or I don’t like that jeans, I like the other jeans more.
Ahora cuando no va seguido por nombre seria: the other (singular) y the others (plural). Aqui actua como pronombre. Ejemplo:
– this bottle is full, the other isn’t (singular)
-this bottle is full, the others aten’t (plural)
-here is one pen, where are the others?
-there two red pen, I found one, where is the other?
No es dificil pero como son distintas maneras de usarlo….

está todo correcto salvo la última idea, que sería: Where are the others? = si others es plural, el verbo debe concordar y escribirse en plural, are. En singular sería: where is the other? = other singular, verbo en singular.

Buenas no entiendo este ejemplo si another va con plural o singular?
Can I have another two beers, please? es plural= beers y en el primer ejemplo usa este Can I have another cup of coffee, please? siendo singular=cup. La pagina es genial, agradecería una aclaración.

si ves en la explicación hay 4 reglas para another y other. La cuarta regla es: another + number + plural noun, es decir, si después de «otro» tenemos un número, entonces utilizamos another, en lugar de other, a pesar de tener un sustantivo plural. Si por el contrario, no tenemos un número y el sustantivo es plural, entonces utilizamos other.

Hola de nuevo, según indicas en la última explicación REMEMBER! «Other and another are always singular when they are followed by a noun». No entiendo eso, hemos dicho que «another» para sustantivos en singular y «other» para sustantivos en plural y en cambio indicas que cuando van seguidos de un sustantivo ambos van siempre en singular. Quizás yo lo haya entendido mal pero te agradecería que me lo aclararas please 🙁

Lo que quería expresar es lo siguiente:
another y other, como palabras en sí, son adjectivos, lo cual obliga en inglés a que ellas, por sí solas, sean singulares, es decir, no llevan la -s de plural. Es imposible poner «anothers» u «others» si van seguidas de sustantivo, porque actúan de adjetivo y en inglés los adjetivos nunca llevan plural.
Eso por un lado. Por otro lado, y referido ahora al sustantivo que llevan detrás, si ese sustantivo es singular, entonces ponemos another, y si es plural, ponemos other.
Son dos cuestions diferentes. Primero hablamos de another y other como palabras independientes, qué categoría gramatical tienen, que son adjetivos, y segundo hablamos del sustantivo que va seguido a esas palabras.
Espero haberme expresado mejor ahora.

es una buena pregunta. Voy a explicártela. Hemos dicho que another va seguido de sustantivo singular y other de plural, correcto, pero cuando utilizamos el artículo the porque queremos decir el otro o la otra, debemos poner siempre other, independientemente de que el sustantivo sea singular o plural. En el ejemplo 7, child es singular pero como tenemos delante el artículo the, ponemos other.

way es una palabra singular, no plural. Según la explicación de other y another, si way es singular, deberíamos poner another, pero no en este caso porque tenemos delante de other + way un no, y decíamos que cuando aparece la combinación NO + OTHER + SUSTANTIVO, siempre ponemos other, nunca another.

la diferencia entre another y other es la siguiente:
– Another va seguido de sustantivo singular,por ejemplo: I went to another country to live = me fui a vivir a otro país. Como «country» es singular, tienes que poner «another».
– Other va seguido de sustantivo plural, por ejemplo: I speak other foreign languages = hablo otros idiomas extranjeros. Como «languages» es plural, decimos «other».
Hay veces que other va con una -s, en plural, cuando no lleva sustantivo detrás, por ejemplo: Some people smoked and others didn’t = alguna gente fumó y otros no. Ponemos «others» con -s porque detrás no hay sustantivo, sino un verbo, en ese caso, «others» es un pronombre.
Espero que lo entiendas.

Es un caso concreto, cuando decimos la estructura «There is no other way», siempre va other en plural, a pesar de que el sustantivo es singular. El significado de esta estructura es «no hay otra manera que/de…».
